postheadericon Lughnasadh , Tailte and 366 day marriages....

Lughnasadh celebrates the Irish Sun God Lugh's respect for his foster mother Tailte.
Tailtean marriages for 366 days and other celebrations are held at this time.
It also coincides with the first harvest.
As autumn is on its way the Sun God is weakening in the sky and the nights are longer
and the strength of the sun is lessening...

The Sun God is entering his old age, but is not yet dead. The God symbolically loses some of his strength
in August as the Sun rises lower in the sky each day and the nights grow longer.
Around this time Lammas is celebrated , the "loaf" mass
( a name created by Christians)with bread being placed on the altar.

Foods to be used in the celebrations are

Apples ,Pears, Grapes, Sloe, Berries , Grains

Pagans celebrate this time of warmth and harvest in a celebrated feast of apples and bread. To join in the rituals use seeds from the fruits consumed and plant them as a sign of giving back to the earth in thanks for the food provided.

If they sprout, grow the plant or tree on and name it as the person you married in Lughnasadh.

Spend some time walking in the countryside appreciating the work of Mother Earth and Father Sky.
